Timelapse of Installation Journey of the Lagun BM 3 RT at Hivac Engineering: Out with the Old, In with the New
The world of CNC machinery is continually evolving, and businesses need to keep up with the latest advancements to stay competitive. One such instance was the recent installation of a Lagun BM 3 RT machine at Hivac Engineering in Hastings, replacing their old Union borer. We’ll take a closer look at the challenges faced during the installation process, and how the team at TDT Machine Tools successfully overcame them, leaving Hivac Engineering with a state-of-the-art CNC machine ready to boost their productivity.
Out with the Old: The Union Borer
Hivac Engineering had been relying on their trusty Union borer for years. However, as technology advanced and the demand for more precise and efficient machining grew, it became apparent that the Union borer was no longer able to meet the company’s needs. With a desire to improve their production capabilities, Hivac Engineering decided to part-exchange their old Union borer for a more advanced CNC machine.
Enter the Lagun BM 3 RT
The Lagun BM 3 RT is a versatile milling machine that boasts superior precision, durability, and ease of use. Its advanced features, such as the built-in rotary table and fully programmable universal head, provide a significant upgrade from the Union borer, allowing Hivac Engineering to produce parts with greater accuracy and efficiency. The high accuracy programmable 1-degree head and gearbox heavy-duty spindle ensure that the machine can deliver consistently precise and repeatable results, making it an ideal choice for a company like Hivac Engineering that works with a wide range of materials. Hivac Engineering are handling diverse materials, from aluminium and stainless steel to exotic alloys and plastics. The Lagun BM 3 RT is equipped with advanced capabilities that enable the company to work with these materials without compromising on quality, accuracy, or speed. The heavy-duty gearbox spindle is specifically designed for high-torque applications, making it suitable for machining even the toughest materials. This, combined with the high accuracy programmable 1-degree head, ensures that Hivac Engineering can continue to deliver exceptional results for their clients, regardless of the materials used.
The Installation Challenge: A Tight Squeeze
The installation of the Lagun BM 3 RT at Hivac Engineering’s facility in Hastings was not without its challenges. With limited space available for the new machine, the team at TDT Machine Tools had to plan and execute the installation with meticulous precision. Careful consideration was given to the removal of the old Union borer and the positioning of the new Lagun BM 3 RT to ensure that it could be installed minimising disruptions to the ongoing production at the facility.
The TDT Machine Tools team worked closely with Hivac Engineering to develop a comprehensive installation plan, taking into account the spatial constraints and the need to maintain a safe and efficient work environment. Three site surveys by engineers and lifting engineers Jack Nobbs ensured a smooth install. The removal of the Union borer was executed with minimal downtime, and the new Lagun BM 3 RT was carefully positioned and installed into its designated space without any issues. Let them commissioning commence. See the Time lapse video for the rest of the story.
